What are wavefronts? Not getting many search results on that, besides a few github issues mentioning them.

I've actually reversed my GPU buying logic from the old days. I used to buy the most powerful bleeding edge GPU I could afford. Now I buy the minimum viable one for the games I play, and only bother to upgrade if a new game requires a higher minimum viable GPU spec. Also I generally favor gameplay over graphics, which makes this strategy viable.
TLDR: Andy Grove was right that:
"Business success contains the seeds of its own destruction. Success breeds complacency. Complacency breeds failure. Only the paranoid survive."
Intel got complacent and missed the mobile, GPU, and AI waves completely, and lost their process tech lead. Now their cash cow CPUs are getting cannibalized from the bottom up by ARM chips from Apple and Qualcom that originally prioritized performance-per-watt, but are now also winning on raw performance. They missed the GPU/AI boat entirely, and lost their process tech lead to TSMC. Grove retired from the Intel board in 2005, and it's as if all subsequent leadership completely forgot his hard-won wisdom.
